Small Space Solutions from Tweens to Teens

When planning your tween to teen’s bedroom, the first thing rule of thumb:

1)  “Mom, it’s MY Room…” As much as you want to keep the Batman action figures or Barbie and Ken dolls , your child wants to break free and start making a statement. When my son wanted his room painted black, I swallowed hard, held my tongue, and got to work finding room ideas that would keep the room light and fun, yet still honor his request. I painted the walls black and white, picked up inexpensive black and white stick-down tile for the floor, and peppered it with red and Asian accents. The result? Happy kid, happy mom.

2)  Look Up:  Especially in a small room, think about storage units that go floor-to-ceiling. Tall bookshelves can be purchased inexpensively and painted to match bedspreads and curtains.

3)  Look Down: There is nothing like a Captain’s bed to stow away toys, clothes, linens – what have you. This Dixie’s bed is perfect for a sleek look for the tween or teen wanting storage AND ultimate coolness.

4)   Storage: Use baskets in complementary accent colors to toss lip gloss, keys, and notes to keep things tidy.

5)   Inventory: Before you go buying storage baskets, take a look at what your child has first. We used to make three piles: “Keep – Store – Toss.” We made these piles to clear out the old to make room for the new. Yes, the storage pile became huge, but we’d do the same process with that pile to get it down to a reasonable size. With toys, they outgrow, consider donating to the local shelter or Goodwill. Your child will learn to give back.

6)   Dream Board: Go ahead and cut out pictures from magazines to get an idea of your kid’s style and what they really like. You can even start a Pinterest account to store great ideas you find online. Here’s a site I found with some incredible teen rooms – (you’ll notice most of them are either bunk beds or platform bed with storage underneath.)

Browse through our website and I’m sure you can find affordable beds on our site to compliment your design scheme.

Platform Beds: Perfect for Kids’ Rooms

You enjoy your king platform bed immensely. Now it’s time to update the junior's room and you aren’t sure if a platform bed is a right choice for your little guy (or girl). With all the options available in styles, sizes, and storage, these beds are a great choice for children.

Storage is usually at a premium in a child’s bedroom. A platform bed with drawers offers a perfect solution: Easily accessible, safe storage that is built right into the bed frame. It’s also a great way to capitalize on a space that usually houses dust bunnies and stray toys.

Platform beds with storage are incredibly popular, and not just during the time your child is young. These beds really grow along with a youngster into adolescence and beyond.

Kids don’t tend to collect fewer things as they grow up, just items of a different nature. platform bed with drawers may go from being filled with toys and picture books to off-season clothes, diaries, or video games as your child ages. But regardless, they’ll continue to be used just as much.
